Single
Edge Dry Shave Razor Product Story
Background and basic development
facts:
1. The top layer of the skin, the epidermis
, is of variable thickness as little as 0.003 inches thick in most of the
body.
2. The sulfur contained in the epidermis effectively
bars the ingress of bacteria into the dermis so long as the epidermis is
intact.
3. Researchers1 have
reported that prep shaving increases the likelihood of postoperative infection.
This increase in infections is most likely caused by the breaching of the
epidermis by the shaving action.
4. Conventional razors shave hair by pinching
the hair between the sharp edge of the blade and the skin. These razors
are designed to shave wet hair. Water and soap softens the hair which
allows the blades edge to penetrate the hair significantly easier. Hair
that is not wet prior to shaving causes a domino effect for resultant skin
damage. The dry hair is hard and tougher to cut through, it takes more
force to push the blade's edge through the hair, resulting in over travel
of the blades edge into the skin. The more skin that is cut the duller
the blades edge becomes. The duller the blade's edge, the more force it
takes to cut the hair, resulting in more severe skin damage. Even with
well softened hair and sharp blades, by the nature of the designed cutting
action, the skin is cut into; That the epidermis is cut through is confirmed
by the stinging sensation when alcohol is applied to the shaved area.
What we did!
Recognizing the epidermis damage problem with
the conventional razors and its potential to contribute to infection, efforts
were undertaken to find a hair removal means which would avoid this problem. The
Derma-Safe Dry Shave razor was developed. The patented2 Derma-Safe
Razor has the blade riding parallel to the skin and it cuts dry, hard hair
slightly above the skin line. It cuts by pulling against the root of the
hair - not by pinching the hair against the skin. The resulting pulling
sensation is noticeable only in the sensitive area of the chin and mouth
and, for that reason, the use of the Derma-Safe Razor in that area is that
area is not recommended.
The clogging
tendency of the conventional prep razor is eliminated in the Derma-Safe
razor shaving since the cutting action guidance is in the cap of the razor
and there is nothing to trap hair and become clogged.
The Derma-Safe
Razor is designed to cut dry hair therefore no water, basins, soap, sponges
or towels are required. However, the cleanup of the dry cut hair can be
a nuisance. The Derma-Safe Adhera Pouch is designed to facilitate the cleanup
of the cut hair. It is a plastic pouch with a pressure sensitive adhesive3
under
the brown paper liner. The Pouch is most effectively used when the shaver
puts the pouch on the hand not doing the actual shaving, peels the paper
liner from the pouch and pat the newly shaved areas with the adhesive as
the shaving progresses. By so doing, the shaver assures that the
hairs are not scattered and all of the hairs are properly shaved. More
than one kit may be required when large areas are shaved.
Since
this is a new unique product, directions for use are included with each
kit. Follow these directions; your satisfaction is assured.
